Planting Flower Seeds in November for Early Spring Blooms

November is an opportune time to plant specific flower seeds, setting the stage for vibrant early spring blooms. This strategy leverages natural winter chilling, known as cold stratification, which helps seeds establish strong roots. Planting now can result in healthier plants with earlier, more prolific displays.

This is a great reminder about dormant sowing. I've found that the soil prep is key, especially making sure to get rid of any weeds that could compete with the new seedlings. Have any of you experimented with different soil amendments for this kind of planting?

Weeds are definitely a battle, aren't they? I learned that the hard way one year after I thought I’d cleared everything out. Turns out, I missed a bunch of little ones, and they came back with a vengeance in the spring. Now I’m super meticulous about it. Haven't experimented much with amendments for dormant sowing, though. Usually, I just make sure the soil is well-drained.
